GKA is delighted to have played a key role in supporting South York Multi-Academy Trust (SYMAT) and The STAR Multi-Academy Trust (STAR MAT) in successfully securing approval from the Department for Education (DfE) for their merger to form Yorkshire Learning Trust (YLT).

The newly established Yorkshire Learning Trust will bring together 17 partner schools, approximately 7,000 students, and 1,000 staff. This collaboration will strengthen the educational provision across the region while ensuring each school retains its unique identity and ethos.

As specialist education consultants and project managers, GKA worked closely with both Trusts throughout the application process, providing strategic guidance and expert support to ensure a robust and compelling submission to the DfE. This approval marks a significant milestone, reinforcing the commitment of all involved to delivering high-quality, inclusive education driven by the principles of Inclusion, Aspiration, Collaboration, and Integrity.

Speaking on this milestone, Ian Yapp, CEO of STAR Multi-Academy Trust, commented:

“This is an incredibly exciting moment for both our Trusts, our schools, and our communities. The formation of Yorkshire Learning Trust will allow us to build on our shared values and expertise, ensuring that every young person receives the best possible education and support. GKA’s expertise was invaluable in helping us navigate the application process, and we are grateful for their insight and guidance.”

At GKA, we are proud to support schools and Trusts in shaping their future and achieving their strategic goals. We look forward to working with both trusts in the next stage of the project, seeing the impact of Yorkshire Learning Trust as it continues to enhance the education and wellbeing of young people across the region.
