Gail Khan Associates (GKA) is proud to celebrate the successful conversion of St Cuthbert’s Catholic High School, St Helens, to academy status and its formal onboarding into St Joseph Catholic Multi Academy Trust (CMAT) – a milestone achieved through GKA’s dedicated project management support.

On Tuesday 1 September, St Cuthbert’s became the first secondary school to join a Catholic Multi Academy Trust since the Archdiocese of Liverpool launched its major academisation strategy, A Family in Christ: Our Future Together. The school now becomes the fifth secondary setting within St Joseph CMAT’s growing family.

Guiding St Cuthbert’s Through a Complex, High‑Profile Conversion

Working alongside the Trust team and particularly their Project Manager GKA oversaw the full project management process for St Cuthbert’s conversion, coordinating legal, financial, governance and operational workstreams to ensure the school was fully prepared for academy status. Working closely with the Archdiocese of Liverpool, St Joseph CMAT and the school’s leadership team, GKA provided:

  • End‑to‑end conversion management, ensuring all statutory requirements were met within required timeframes
  • Due diligence oversight, including finance, HR, estates and safeguarding
  • Stakeholder coordination, supporting governors, trust leaders and diocesan officers
  • Onboarding planning, aligning St Cuthbert’s systems, culture and processes with St Joseph CMAT

This structured approach ensured a smooth, confident transition into the trust, reflecting GKA’s commitment to delivering high‑quality, reliable support for catholic schools navigating academisation.

GKA’s Continued Support for Catholic Trust Growth

As St Joseph CMAT prepares for significant expansion, growing to over 60 schools across Liverpool and St Helens, GKA is proud to have played a key role in supporting one of the first major secondary conversions under the new diocesan strategy.

Gail Khan, Project Director of GKA, said:

“St Cuthbert’s is a school with a rich history and a strong Catholic identity. Working with colleagues and supporting their conversion and onboarding into St Joseph CMAT has been a privilege. We are delighted to have helped the school take this important step with confidence, clarity and a clear foundation for future success.”

GKA looks forward to continuing its partnership with Catholic schools and trusts across the region as A Family in Christ: Our Future Together strategy progresses.

Congratulations to St Cuthbert’s Catholic High School and St Joseph Catholic Multi Academy Trust on this significant milestone.
